Some tips for using the brushes:

Painting and drawing involve various fundamental shading techniques. The technique we prefer, and find most effective for painting fur, involves starting with a neutral, halftone local color. This is followed by shading according to volume and lighting, and then layering fur colors that are slightly lighter than the underlying shading.

• Begin with a Neutral Base: Start by applying a neutral local fur color with a darker tone. Use any brush that allows you to model the general shape and shading effectively.
• Deepening and Highlighting: After establishing the base, deepen certain areas (e.g., deep shaded regions among strands near their roots) and add light and highlight accents where needed.
• Experiment with Blending Modes: Utilize layer or brush blending modes, such as Soft Light, Screen, and Multiply, to achieve desired effects.
• Progress from General to Specific: Start with the primary shapes, lights, and darks. Then, add non-detailed fur strands using appropriate brushes, followed by detailing with more refined fur brushes.
• Final Touches: Add the sharpest strands or hairs, blur or darken some underlying strands, and highlight the most visible ones. Adjust the softness, sharpness, darkness, or lightness as needed. Add highlights using “Shining Tips” brushes or regular textured thin brushes for separated hair.
• Preserve Brush Settings: Activate “Lock sub tool do not save change” for each brush preset to reset the brush after making adjustments. This should be done unless you need to retain specific brush settings.
• Color Variability: Each brush has slight color variability linked to pen pressure, making the fur more picturesque and realistic. Increased pressure introduces more secondary color (from the second square) to the primary color, enhancing the overall effect.

This method provides a structured approach to creating realistic fur, ensuring your artwork is both detailed and lifelike.

How to install the brush set:

1. After downloading the file, unzip it (if this is an archive).
2. Start Clip Studio Paint.
3. Choose the brush tool you prefer.
4. Select all the .sut files and drag & drop them into the list of brushes. The brush presets (sub-tools) will start appearing in the list.
5. Enjoy! I’d advise you to switch on the “Lock sub tool do not save change” for each brush of the set (see the tip and picture above).
The basic settings are already made, but you can set your brushes as you wish. In this case, turn this switch off.
